Caio Koch-Weser European Co-Chair

Caio Koch-Weser has taken on the European co-chairmanship of the Xyntéo-GLTE Low-Carbon Leadership Board. Mr Koch-Weser joins Peter Darbee of PG&E, Jamshed J. Irani of Tata Sons, Alexander Medvedev of Gazprom and Osvald M. Bjelland on the board’s executive committee.

Mr Koch-Weser brings deep, wide-ranging knowledge and experience to the board. As Vice Chairman of Deutsche Bank Group, he has global responsibility for strategy, regulatory and corporate advisory and coordination and implementation of group-wide business initiatives. Between 1999 and 2005, Mr Koch-Weser served as Germany’s Deputy Minister of Finance. From 2003 to 2005, he chaired the EU’s Economic & Financial Committee, a grouping of treasury directors and deputy central bankers that prepares EU ministerial meetings.

Before this, Mr Koch-Weser served for 26 years at the World Bank. He held a range of high-level positions in Washington DC, including Division Chief for the China Programme, Director for West Africa, Deputy Treasurer and Director of Treasury Operations, Regional Vice President for Middle East & North Africa, Managing Director of Operations, and Member of the Executive Committee.

In March 2010, Mr Koch-Weser was appointed by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to serve on the UN’s High-Level Advisory Group on Climate Finance. The group was established to study sources of revenue to enable achievement of climate goals and develop practical proposals to scale up long-term financing for mitigation and adaptation in developing countries.

The group, which is co-chaired by Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, published its report in early November. Read it here.
