Xyntéo presents at oil & gas conference
Australia has always been rich in natural resources. But now it is gaining increasing global attention for its booming gas market. So much so, that INTSOK – an initiative to promote the Norwegian petroleum industry abroad – has arranged a conference to promote the Norwegian oil industry in Western Australia.
The conference, on the topic of Safer and Cleaner Production, took place on 8 December 2011 in Perth, and was closed with an address by Norwegian Prime Minster, Jens Stoltenberg. Ivar Andreas Valstad, a project manager at Xyntéo, spoke about Xyntéo’s work on improving the carbon efficiency of oil and gas production and how Xyntéo can help the Australian oil and gas industry. Xyntéo has tools and methods that allow companies and organisations to determine the causes of carbon and potential solutions to decrease it.
Such tools could certainly benefit Australia. Gas extraction and processing is on the rise, bringing with it large emissions from upstream, midstream and downstream processing. Over the next six years, oil and gas companies will invest 200 billion USD into the LNG sector alone. International companies in Australia will also build the infrastructure necessary to produce natural gas and liquefy it to LNG.
Ivar Valstad’s visit comes amid client meetings in Australia, where Xyntéo is consulting on improving the carbon performance of Australian oil and gas projects.
He said: “I am delighted to be able to share more about Xynteo’s offering and explain how we can help the Australian oil and gas industry. The North Sea is a challenging place to extract oil and gas and Norway has a long tradition of exploiting oil and gas resources. In addition, Norway has had a carbon tax since 1991. I think it’s very powerful to tell the Norwegian story and share the lessons that we have learnt.”
The word INTSOK comes from the word ‘sokkel’ in Norwegian, which means shelf. This international shelf will help pave the way for cleaner, greener oil and gas production and extraction.
