Peter Voser, CEO of Royal Dutch Shell, will host the Global Leadership and Technology Exchange (GLTE) on 18-19 April 2012 in Berlin. The city, with its historic landmarks and successful bridging of political differences, is a fitting backdrop for the GLTE to address the challenges of transitioning into a low-carbon economy.
Our water, energy and food resources, which are intricately interconnected, are already under stress. Our challenge is to produce far more energy for a world with far more people while at the same time reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
“Despite the enormity of the challenge, I believe there is reason for optimism. I’m confident human ingenuity and technology will make it happen. Getting there will require a new level of leadership and global collaboration on multiple fronts,” said Voser during a 2011 energy summit.
This so-called “Stress Nexus” will increasingly define the operating space for companies, cities and policy-makers. In Berlin, we will take a closer look at these topics and the pioneering initiatives and policies that are creating an environment for businesses to innovate and for the resource-efficient economy to flourish. Germany has a proud record of pioneering policies to ensure that economic development goes hand in hand with sustainable development.
Amongst the 16 world-leading companies that make-up the GLTE partnership, there is a clear consensus that it is now time to carry out collaborative practical actions that demonstrate the pathway to a low-carbon economy. Xyntéo will continue to work closely with partners to define and design projects that achieve this.
