Stavanger GLTE: 9-10 June 2010
12/06/2010
At the Stavanger GLTE – hosted by Statoil – we asked ourselves: what is the role of the oil and gas industry in efforts to build a lower-carbon economy? In particular, how can the innovative capacity of the industry and its suppliers be leveraged to unlock low-carbon growth in other parts of the world economy? How can the industry harness its operational experience and technical competence to reduce its own carbon footprint, including by pushing forward with CCS and developing renewable energy? Is natural gas a bridge or a destination fuel?
As we met in Norway, we included a segment on the High North. Extraordinarily rich in energy and other resources, the region has enormous economic potential; yet it is also acutely vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
